Domestic Sovereign is a self-portrait exploring the strange territory between authority, performance and domestic life. A makeshift cardboard crown and deliberately precarious imagery play with ideas of sovereignty and control, while red thread and gilded, fractured surfaces suggest something more vulnerable beneath the performance. The work considers the contradictory roles and identities we construct for ourselves, and the distance between appearing in control and actually being so.
